Defender w/ iThemes Security

Are their any known conflicts from using Defender with iThemes Security? I haven’t installed Defender yet, but I’m just wondering if it’s worth it … or b/c all the functions in Defender are in Ithemes Security, maybe it’ll counteract itself. Maybe?

    Hello Amanda,

I hope you’re well today and thank you for your question!

There are some significant differences between two plugins, mostly in the area of their features. They don’t overlap fully and while there are some that may “duplicate” I think you may run both plugins at once.

Since you are going to install Defender while iThemes Security is already installed, just check before activating any of the Defender features if the same/similar option is already activated with iThemes and if it is, skip it. That way both plugins should nicely complement, I think.

    Best regards,

    Adam

    Hello mpress,

The Defender plugin has evolved much since my previous post here. It’s still not the same as iThemes security so I think there’s still some space where both this plugins do not overlap but indeed it might not be the best idea to run the both at the same. I mean, not with out of the box – default – setup. However, with some extra caution about the features enabled in both of them they shouldn’t interfere.

That being said, at this stage of development I dare to say that with a reliable host, up to date PHP and WordPress (along with its theme and all the plugins) + following all the usual “good practices” (e.g. if it comes to things like allowing anonymous server access, managing users’ user-roles, keeping passwords secure etc), Defender along with a backup system (such as e.g. our Snapshot Pro) would be all in one security tool, in my opinion.
