[Forminator] CSS to change the position of description

We’d like to change the location of the description field and make it go “above” the input/choice fields, not below. Please suggest some CSS code for this. Thank you.

    Hi FreshIdeas,

    Hope you’re doing good today.

By default, the location of the description on Forminator Pro is set to the bottom of the form fields. Unfortunately there is no option available at this moment to change it. However, I could try some custom CSS code which could help you on this issue.

As you didn’t provide us any URL to check the form so I am not sure about the layout or style of your current form. Could you please share the URL to check the form by replying here so we could try proper custom CSS code according to your need.

    Best regards,
    Sanowar

I’m really surprised at this. Has this changed at all?? It’s more of the same terrible UX of this app to put the description, literally the AID for the actual field, BELOW by default? Is there any way to fix this with CSS? I don’t have a URL I’d like to get the generic help here. Thank you, and please please upgrade this app. It’s the worst of the lot from a UX and UI standpoint.

    Hi Smithwood,

Thanks for your valuable feedback. I will forward this discussion to our team, so they could check the issue further.

Anyway, I created a MU Plugin “cst-forminator-description.php” which would help you to show the description above the form field. I tested this solution in my test site and it worked fine on my end.

I used form id “#forminator-module-72” in the code. You would need to replace that with your form id to target a specific form. You would find the form id in your browser’s address bar in Edit form screen.

If you want to apply this style in all your forms, in that case please remove the form id at all from the code.

I have attached the above MU Plugin as a zip “cst-forminator-description.zip” with this reply which you could download and install in your site. You would find necessary information about installing MU Plugin here https://wpmudev.com/docs/using-wordpress/installing-wordpress-plugins/#installing-mu-plugins.

Please try that MU Plugin in your site and let us know if it works for you as well. Also, if you have any more queries regarding the issue, please open a separate new support ticket, so we could help you further there.

    Best regards,
    Sanowar

      Hi Deborah,

Thanks for your valuable feedback. We already have a task for this issue, however I am unable to provide you any ETA on this. As we have some other high priority tasks for which we got more requests from our members, so at this moment, our team set a low priority on this task.

I have pinged our team again regarding this issue, so they could consider this feature as soon as they can. In the meantime, as a workaround you could try using the above MU plugin.

      Best regards,
      Sanowar

      Hey Azurite ,

      Hope you’re doing well today!

We truly appreciate your feedback and we understand your frustration.
Currently this improvement is still on the backlog of our tasks as our developers currently have other issues/improvements pending to do, so we can’t estimate an ETA for this yet.

I’ve again pinged our team regarding this task and added your comment as well as a feature request, so we can control how many we’ve been having.

For now, you can use the MU Plugin that was shared in this post to get a workaround on this.
      Thank you for the feeback.

      Best Regards,
      Rael

    Hi all

A temporary fix without CSS or mu-plugin:
    1. Use the HTML field above your checkbox and in that field add your TITLE & DESCRIPTION
    2. Use your checkbox field and make TITLE & DESCRIPTION there empty

In email notification, you can manually place your TITLE and below that title call the checkbox results.

    Kind Regards,
    Kris

    Hi WebSource ,

Any update on this? GravityForms has a setting to manipulate this.

We understand your concern here and thank you for wanting improvements with the plugins.

Please be informed that this is still in the plans and still under discussion as do understand our Developer team consistently address many issues and improvements such as this and of course all depends on the priority of a certain task (e.g. critical, etc). However, there is still no specific details with regards to ETA as of this moment but let us hope this gets added to the plugin soon. We understand this is important to you as well as the others so we are adding this as another request to let the team know more members are wanting this feature and possibly help with priority.

As of current, please try the previous suggestion of my colleague here and see if it helps with you achieving the same.

    Again, thank you!

    Best Regards,
    Jasper

I felt very dumb trying to find a way to put the description above the options for checklists. Found my way here and was surprised and frustrated to see that there really isn’t a way to do this (even after 6 years of requests). Maybe I’m missing something here?

    Hi Teage ,

We have an update regarding this task, the Formaintor team has added this to the next sprint but still an ETA on this cannot be provided.

We strive to incorporate features that are widely requested by our members, and I truly appreciate your suggestions and active engagement regarding this feature.

That said, the decision to add or modify any feature depends on its priority (based on demand from members) and involves detailed research, planning, execution, and testing to ensure the quality and functionality of the plugin for all users.

From a member’s perspective, I understand that waiting for even minor adjustments can feel time-consuming. However, this thorough process is essential to maintain the quality and reliability of the plugin, as it impacts a large user base.

Once again, thank you for your valuable suggestions and involvement. I want to assure you that your feedback has been communicated to our development team.

    Best Regards,
    Nebu John

Thank you Nebu John , I can’t believe this fix has taken so long to get prioritised.
The interim solution is a bit messy and I imagine difficult for most WordPress users to implement.
Hope the next release at least has the description above instead of below. The flexibility can come later – although I don’t know why anyone would want instructions or a description below the choices, etc.
    Regards
    Andre

    Hi Teage ,

Thank you for your patience and for sharing your thoughts with us.
I completely understand your frustration regarding the time it has taken to address this request and how the interim solution may be challenging for many WordPress users to implement effectively.

As a team, we strive to balance addressing user feedback while ensuring the quality and stability of our plugin for the broader community. Your feedback, along with others who have expressed similar sentiments, has been instrumental in highlighting the importance of this feature.

I assure you that the development team is actively working to integrate this enhancement into a future release. While I can’t provide an exact ETA at this moment, I’ll make sure to keep you updated as soon as we have more information on the progress.

Your suggestion about prioritizing the description placement above the input/choice fields in the next release is noted, and we’ll ensure that your feedback continues to be shared with the team.

Thank you again for your patience, understanding, and support.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have further questions or concerns.
    Best Regards,
    Jamil

Hi Andre van der Merwe ,

I would like to update you that our team is currently working on improving the workflow in future updates. While the release is tentatively expected to be included in version 1.40, we cannot provide an exact ETA at the moment if there are changes in the roadmap for version 1.40.

We kindly suggest waiting for the upcoming release to see if it meets your needs regarding this feature.

Please be advised that our support scope has recently been updated. If there are actions which involve custom development or feature enhancement to the plugin, they’ll fall beyond the scope of our support services.

We are more than willing to offer guidance to facilitate your work on the code and feel free to open a new ticket if needed. However, supplying updated or custom code, including PHP, JS, and CSS, extends beyond our service scope.

If you require immediate customization, such as custom codes in CSS or JS, you may want to explore our On-demand Development service.

Hi Nithin Ramdas , that is fantastic news to hear! Hopefully 1.40 will be the next release.

While I totally understand the reluctance to assist if this is going to be in 1.40, I would recommend providing a working alternative solution if it’s not, because none of us want to spend money fixing a design flaw that WPMUDEV developers are accountable for.

I sincerely hope you also see it from our perspective because ultimately it’s about the customer experience and both clients and users keep telling us that this is a huge problem for them.

Anyway, we are now ALL eagerly looking forward to 1.40. :-)

    Regards,
    Andre

Hi Andre van der Merwe ,

Thank you for your patience and for sharing your thoughts with us. I completely understand your perspective, and we truly appreciate your continued engagement.

You’re absolutely right—version 1.40 is confirmed as the next release, and as per our roadmap, the team is working on improving the workflow, including this requested change. While we cannot guarantee every planned feature will make it into the final release, we remain hopeful that this will be included.

I also understand your concerns about an alternative solution if this does not make it into 1.40. While our support scope doesn’t include custom development, we are happy to guide you if you’d like to explore a workaround. If needed, our On-Demand Development service is also available for more tailored solutions.

We truly value your feedback, and we’re just as eager as you are for the next update! Please let us know if you have any further questions in the meantime.

    Best regards,

    Hi Everyone,

Thank you all for your patience. 1.40 has been released today and with that, the ability to place the description text below or above the input field. You can learn more about that here.

Please update to the latest version of Forminator, remove any custom code you have added and let us know if it is not working as expected.

    Thanks and Regards,
    Zayd Bhyat
